03 May, 2022

On May 3, the project Sky was presented in Lviv. It aims at technical modernization of the command and reporting centers of the Air Command West. Lviv IT Cluster supports the project financially. The re-equipment will help the Air Command specialists to work even more efficiently.

Modernization includes a complete replacement of existing computer equipment, network equipment, and screens for navigation display systems. It is planned to also modernize the Air Command’s operations centers as part of the second stage of the project. Sky project is implemented in cooperation with Lviv IT Cluster, Lviv Military Administration, and the Air Command West.

“From the first day of the full-scale Russian offensive, we have been actively involved in helping our city and country. Therefore, we try to be as useful as possible to help our military. The issue of a safe sky is extremely important. Our community that unites more than 200 IT companies is pleased to join the initiative that will make our sky safer,” comments Stepan Veselovskyi, CEO of Lviv IT Cluster.

Well-equipped Air Defense forces guarantee the region and country’s peace and security. After all, thanks to the work of Air Defense, cities and strategic infrastructure are under the shield, protecting against hostile attacks from the sky. This helps avoid the damage or destruction of critical infrastructure and protects the civilian population.

“During the first two months of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine over the Lviv region alone, specialists of the Air Command West of the Air Defence Forces of Ukraine shot down more than 20 missiles and about 10 Russian drones. And we are just one of the areas where the Air Command works. That’s why the Air Defense Centers need to be well-equipped,” says Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Military Administration.

Details about the Sky project implementation are not disclosed for security reasons. However, Air Command West notes that modernization has already started. And air defense specialists will now work even more efficiently.

“Such initiatives undoubtedly accelerate our victory. Today, some innovations in the workplaces of the Air Command West specialists have already started. Thanks to them, we can make decisions much faster. I am grateful to Lviv IT Cluster and Lviv Military Administration for their help and cooperation,” said Denys Levkovych, representative of the Air Command West of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

During the presentation of the project, the cooperation agreement was signed between the Lviv IT Cluster, Lviv Military Administration, and the Air Command West. Lviv IT Cluster will continue to support Air Defense Forces projects designed to strengthen sky defenses.

Lviv IT Cluster also thanks the contributors of the Sky project: Software Association of Japan, itSMF Japan, IT Association of Japan (Japan Institute for Business Informatics), IIBA Japan Chapter, and CeFIL.
