27 Apr, 2021

As part of the United for Health initiative, Lviv IT Cluster has contributed to the arrangement of 350 hospital beds for COVID-19 patients at the Lviv City Council request.

Lviv has one of the highest numbers of new COVID-19 cases in Ukraine. On April 26, 189 people received positive test results; in total, 62,741 residents of Lviv were diagnosed with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Due to the situation, the local authorities are putting maximum effort to provide extra beds for patients both in hospitals and other facilities.

Lviv City Council has already equipped the Lviv Medical College on Mykolaychuka street with 350 beds. Lviv IT Cluster members companies including EPAM, Lohika, N-iX, Perfectial, and Tekhnika Dlia Biznesu contributed to the initiative, in particular, the companies provided bedside tables.

“For more than a year, Lviv business has helped local hospitals by providing them with both expensive equipment, such as oxygen concentrators, lung ventilation equipment, etc. and ordinary but vital things needed for patients. The pandemic is not an easy time for entrepreneurs themselves, but they find time and resources to help us too,” points out Victoria Dovzhyk, advisor to the Lviv City Mayor. “Yes, the local authorities continue to arrange additional hospital beds for the COVID-19 patients. But since we allocate funds from the city budget, we sometimes lack finances for things like extra furniture. We are grateful to Lviv IT Cluster and its member companies which contributed to the initiative by providing bedside tables. This is a good example of cooperation between the local authorities and business in a matter important for all Lviv residents.”

In addition, Lviv City Council plans to arrange extra hospital beds in the Polyclinic Department №2 of the Kniaz Lev 1st Municipal Clinical Hospital. According to Lviv City Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, about 3,000 square meters will be allocated for a separate department, which will be isolated from the hospital. In total, the city plans to arrange 1,000 hospital beds by the end of April.
