The NERDZ LAB team designed an interface with personalized recommendations, search across hundreds of thousands of titles, a fully functional e-commerce flow, and real-time order tracking.

“Yakaboo’s original architecture had reached its limits — the iOS and Android versions had drifted apart, and the reading experience was falling behind what the best apps in the category already offered. We built the new architecture with scalability in mind, so the product can handle audience growth without losing performance,” the NERDZ LAB team commented.

Both apps were rebuilt on Flutter, with a single codebase now powering iOS and Android simultaneously. The e-book reader and audio player were implemented in-house: off-the-shelf plugins only covered the basics, so typography, navigation, highlights, and playback controls were all built from scratch. Content protection was another key challenge — downloaded books are stored on the device in encrypted form and decrypted only during active reading. The app works fully offline, with reading progress, bookmarks, and audiobook position saved locally and synced automatically once a connection is restored.

Beyond the core functionality, the app includes a loyalty programme, wishlists, restock notifications, and curated personal selections. The product is live on the App Store and Google Play.

NERDZ LAB is a Ukrainian software development company founded in Lviv in 2017.
