AI and IT: 10 questions and answers from Customertimes

AI is transforming the way IT specialists work — ignoring its impact is no longer an option. To stay ahead, tech companies must learn how to harness its full potential. Artem Kolyshkin, SVP and Global Delivery Head at Customertimes, recently joined a panel discussion hosted by an educational organization SET University. During the event, Artem shared both a technical and managerial perspective on the most pressing questions about AI in today’s tech world.

Is there a risk that AI will replace humans?

It’s not AI replacing people — it’s people who know how to use AI replacing those who don’t. The real risk is being left behind by those who’ve learned to work smarter with these tools.

How do you see the role of AI at Customertimes?

We see AI as a true gamechanger. If we don’t adapt, someone else will. That’s why we’re actively launching initiatives to help our teams learn, experiment, and master AI tools — across all functions and roles.

      How does Customertimes implement AI?

AI is evolving so rapidly, and we’re building the framework in real time to keep pace. Every profession is experimenting with different tools in different ways. Like many companies, we’re building our own approach — testing, learning, and adapting as we go.

What AI trends are you seeing in the IT industry?

In the past six months, the concept of “vibe coding” has become very popular. It is an AI-powered way of building software where developers use natural language to describe what they want, and the AI handles the coding details — focusing more on intent than implementation. Sure, the code might still need refinement — but showing a clickable prototype to a client right away? That’s a real wow moment.

Are companies laying off employees because of AI?

Some large companies did lay off teams too quickly, thinking AI could fully replace them. Now they’re rehiring to fix the damage. At CT, we’re adapting. We’re learning how to run projects with more agile teams — maybe just two or three people instead of a full scrum team.

How has AI changed client expectations?

Clients remain very cautious after the global challenges of recent years, so they aren’t spending heavily on IT. Now, AI has joined the equation. Everyone wants AI in their solutions, even if they’re not sure what it means or how it works. Offering something without AI? That’s becoming a tough sell.

How does CT approach AI training?

We’re very interested in high-quality AI training for the team. But finding the right programs is a challenge. There’s a flood of content — courses, platforms, subscriptions — but no universal solution. We are creating tailored learning tracks for different roles with essential materials.

How might AI affect the junior specialists?

There’s a potential downside for juniors. When they start relying too heavily on AI, they risk skipping the foundational learning process. With AI, it’s easy to just type a prompt and get an instant response. That convenience can slow down real growth if not balanced with critical thinking and hands-on learning.

Why is it important to understand business in the age of AI?

Business acumen is becoming a focal skill. If someone is just dragging tasks in Jira and writing code without understanding the client’s goals, they’ll be outpaced by someone who truly gets the business context.

                    How is AI impacting leadership?

AI tools are quickly becoming essential for leaders across all company functions — Engineering, Sales, Finance, HR, and beyond. They empower leaders to optimize workflows, save valuable time, and more effectively serve their departments’ stakeholders.
