EPAM Ukraine Allocates $300 000 to Equip Tactical Medics on the Front Line

EPAM Ukraine and the Leleka Foundation/BF Leleka-Ukraine have agreed to establish a close partnership in 2024. As part of the “Backpacks of Life” project, the company is allocating $300,000 to support medics on the front lines.

The charitable organizations will use this money throughout the year to purchase 300 medical backpacks and supplies for them: tourniquets, occlusive stickers, hemostatic bandages, etc. This aid will be delivered to medics who save lives in the war zone.

“These specialists work with wounded soldiers on the battlefield and during evacuation, as well as help civilians in areas where the relevant emergency services are no longer working. They are by the side of the victims at a critical time for survival. Our joint mission is to provide them with the necessary equipment for work,” explains Iryna Huk, director of BF Leleka-Ukraine.

The support of the EPAM Ukraine will allow the Leleka Foundation/BF Leleka-Ukraine to send 25 backpacks filled with tactical medicine to the front lines per month. In general, the Foundation provides approximately 400 equipped backpacks each month, yet it does not cover all the needs of the medics.

“We have been working with advanced technologies for many years, while at the same time we understand that the most valuable thing is the life and health of people. We are initiating the “Backpacks of Life” project to hand over 300 medical backpacks to defenders, each of which can save up to 10 lives. The company continues to support the country in several directions, and medical care is one of the key lines of action. Now, more than ever, we need to be united and persevering”, Dmytro Yakimets, head of ESG projects at EPAM Ukraine, commented on the start of the project.

The cooperation also includes an educational campaign about the importance of timely assistance, basic supplies in the backpacks and best practices of first aid. This will help attract more funds for fundraising and increase the amount of medical equipment purchased.

The “Backpacks of Life” project is a way to deepen cooperation between the foundation and the IT company, which has been ongoing since June 2022. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Leleka Foundation/BF Leleka-Ukraine has handed over to medics more than 100,000 tourniquets, more than 7,500 backpacks and more than 1,000 evacuation litters to evacuate the wounded. Medical assistance to defenders, in particular the purchase of tactical medicine, is one of the areas of EPAM Response – the large-scale country support program. During the 700 days of the full-scale invasion, the amount of aid from the EPAM within the framework of this program amounted to UAH 556 million.
