From Local Initiatives to Global Standards: Sombra CSR Report 2024–2025

Sombra has published its CSR Report for 2024–2025 — a document about how a technology business combines quality products, care for people, and real impact on society.

“Corporate social responsibility is not a project. It is part of our daily work. We believe that business should create value not only for clients, but for society as well.”Viktor Chekh, CEO at Sombra

Founded in 2013, Sombra is an international software development and IT consulting company. Over 450 professionals from Ukraine, Colombia, and India work with clients in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Saudi Arabia. Fintech, healthcare, e-commerce, logistics, energy, AI — and behind it all stands one conviction: technology should create real value for business and society.

A Step Toward Global Responsibility

In 2025, Sombra joined two UN initiatives: the UN Global Compact in Ukraine (commitment to principles in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption) and the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). The company also focuses on 8 priority UN Sustainable Development Goals — from quality education to innovation and gender equality.

People Inside

Team well-being is not a bonus — it is part of the culture. Sombra supports physical and mental health through yoga, Run Club, sports challenges, health insurance, and sports compensation benefits. A dedicated focus area is support for veterans and their families: psychological support groups, partnership with Veteran Hub, and an inclusion audit aligned with ISO 30415:2021.

In 2024, the Sombra Football Team won the First League Cup at the Lviv IT League. These things matter too.

Education as an Investment in the Industry

Sombra actively collaborates with universities and students. The flagship IT Next Generation program, developed together with Lviv Polytechnic National University, engages hundreds of students and bridges real projects with academic education. In 2024–2025, the company was recognised by Stud-Point as one of the Top 25 Employers Open to Youth in Ukraine.

In parallel — 90+ knowledge-sharing sessions in the tech community, an internal language school (English, Spanish, Ukrainian), and dozens of internal courses and webinars. Numbers and details are in the full report.

Environmental Responsibility in Action

2,500 trees planted in Ukraine and Colombia. Coffee grounds are turned into eco cups, plastic into hammocks and shoppers, glass and paper into secondary raw materials. Over 200 employees are involved in sustainability initiatives. Small actions — but consistent and every year.

Sombra for Ukraine: A Business That Does Not Stand Aside

The Sombra for Ukraine Charity Fund was founded in 2022 — from the very first days of the full-scale invasion. What began as spontaneous team initiatives grew into a structured long-term social mission with four directions: humanitarian aid, the Sombra Lifeline Drive project (vehicles for the military), equipment supply for the frontline, and cooperation with funds and partners.

Over 2024–2025, the fund provided assistance totalling more than $775,000 — not counting the volunteer efforts of the team.

Partners include Lviv IT Cluster, Veteran Hub, Come Back Alive, Rotary Polska, and other Ukrainian and international organisations. Together with Lviv IT Cluster, Sombra also contributed to the reconstruction of residential buildings damaged by missile strikes in Lviv.

“We see our responsibility not only in delivering strong solutions for clients, but also in contributing to the places where we work and live.”Viktor Chekh, CEO at Sombra
