Lviv IT Cluster Launches Degree Program in UI/UX Design at Lviv Polytechnic National University

Next academic year, students of the degree program №186 Publishing and Printing at Lviv Polytechnic National University will get an opportunity to study at the updated program UI/UX Design. The Lviv IT Cluster members joined the modernization process of the program.

Senior and Lead level specialists from Lviv IT Cluster member companies Qubstudio, LinkUp Studio, and OTAKOYI worked together with representatives of Lviv Polytechnic to update the educational program. This approach allowed us to modernize and tailor the program to meet the market’s demands. Experts from the Lviv IT Cluster member companies will also join the eaching and mentoring process within the updated program.

“The Department of Publishing Information Technologies collaborated with the Lviv IT Cluster to modernize the educational program, allowing us to update the Bachelor’s program, develop competencies, and introduce certain elective courses. Experts and practitioners from the tech industry will be involved in the teaching process. Updating the curriculum through the introduction of innovative courses and subjects that meet the labor market requirements will enable us to be aligned with the industry needs,” says Mykola Logoyda, Ph.D. of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Publishing Information Technologies Department, and the curator of the updated program.

The updated UI/UX program is an excellent opportunity for young people who want to build a successful career in graphic design. Studying at this program, students will receive theoretical knowledge and practical skills that can be directly applied when working on projects after graduation. During their studies, students will also have the opportunity to intern in tech companies that are the Lviv IT Cluster members.

“When updating the program, we aimed to gather knowledge and practices that will help each student understand the value of user experience and apply it effectively in practice. Students will not only learn UI/UX design but also expand their horizons and understand aspects of business, marketing, and user psychology. They will also learn modern technologies for creating digital products and become aware of how the research is conducted on real projects. As UX design is an interdisciplinary field, each student will be able to choose their career path, from design professions to specialized ones such as Business Analyst, Developer, and more,” says Nataliya Sambir, CDO of Linkup Studio and member of the Lviv IT Cluster working group for updating the program.

The 3rd and 4th-year students of the Publishing and Printing Bachelor’s degree program will be able to study at the updated program. To be enrolled, they must choose elective block №1, Information Technologies of Multimedia and Design, at the beginning of the 5th semester.

“This is the 19th educational program that we have updated with the Lviv IT Cluster members. More than 4500 students in Lviv are now studying in our programs. However, we will not stop there because developing quality tech education is one of our community’s missions. In particular, after completing this program, graduates will have the required knowledge and skills and can immediately strengthen UI/UX designer teams in tech companies,” adds Stepan Veselovskyi, CEO of Lviv IT Cluster.

When creating the program, developers paid significant attention to the competencies graduates should possess after completing their studies. In particular, they developed new courses, such as Graphical User Interfaces, Methods and Models of Business Analysis in the Tech Industry, and Design Methodologies and Frameworks. All of them are designed to develop the skills necessary for students to work in tech companies. Therefore, after completing the course, graduates will not require additional training for employment.

This is the second updated program that the Lviv IT Cluster launched in the UI/UX design field. Last year, the first students began studies in the bachelor’s program of Graphic Design at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
