Lviv Polytechnic Opens an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

A new Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AI Lab) has opened at Lviv Polytechnic National University. The lab was established by SoftServe at the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies. The new space will serve as a hub for innovation, research, and hands-on training for future AI professionals.

“Opening the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Lviv Polytechnic is another step in developing high-quality technical education and strengthening our strategic partnership with the university. We believe that the future of innovation is created at the intersection of academic research and business practice. Together, we are building an environment where students gain both strong fundamental knowledge and access to cutting-edge technologies and real-world projects that help shape competitive industry professionals,” said Olha Dolia, Head of Educational Partnerships in Ukraine at SoftServe.

SoftServe has been collaborating with the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems since its establishment in 2017, and in 2019 the partners launched a joint educational program. Today, students and graduates of the department work at SoftServe in various roles and at different levels — from software developers to data scientists, big data engineers, and robotics engineers. The opening of the AI Lab marks the next stage in the development of this long-term cooperation.

The AI Lab will function as a hub for student, research, and partner projects. Here, future specialists will gain practical experience in building AI-based solutions — from idea to launch.

Representatives of the university emphasize the importance of providing students with access to modern learning environments:

“We see that every year a significant part of our youth goes abroad. That is why having laboratories where students can not only study but also spend time beyond classes, develop, and create is critically important. When a classroom no longer resembles a hospital but instead becomes a bright, well-equipped space, it is always pleasant to be there and work. I sincerely thank our strategic partner, the IT company SoftServe, as well as the support of the city and the region, and the entire team that contributed to the implementation of this project,” emphasized Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, during the official opening.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the university, SoftServe, the Lviv Regional Military Administration, and the Lviv City Council. The event also featured a panel discussion titled “How AI Is Transforming Professions: New Challenges and Opportunities for Universities”, where experts discussed changes in the labor market, the emergence of new roles, and the need for higher education institutions to adapt to rapid technological shifts.
