Weddings, FPV Drones Construction and Solo Hikes in the Carpathians: What Tech Specialists Plan for 2024

GlobalLogic, one of Ukraine’s leading tech companies, conducted a survey among its specialists regarding their intentions for 2024. Over 1,000 people participated in the study.

In times of uncertainty, planning for the future can be challenging. However, research shows that planning for aspects within our reach can be extremely beneficial, providing a sense of control and improving mental balance. With this in mind, GlobalLogic asked its specialists about their plans for 2024. Following the onset of the full-scale invasion, nearly a third of GlobalLogic specialists ceased making long-term plans. A quarter of the specialists now limit their planning to no more than a month ahead, and only 14% continue to form detailed, long-term plans.

Priorities of Ukrainian tech specialists

The survey revealed that the specialists prioritize their family’s and loved ones’ well-being above all in the upcoming year. Personal and professional development — including education, mental health, and career achievements — ranked second. Many respondents also emphasized the importance of volunteering, as well as focusing on physical development and sporting achievements.

Personal Intentions for 2024

The intentions for the coming year among tech specialists are diverse. Notably, over a third of respondents plan to learn a new programming language. Other goals include constructing FPV drones, solo mountain hiking, learning a musical instrument, adopting an animal from a shelter, apartment renovation, completing a master’s degree, returning to their hometown, starting a family, and donating more than UAH 100,000 to the Armed Forces.

Interestingly, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, GlobalLogic specialists have raised over 54 million hryvnia for the Armed Forces through an internal Telegram channel.

How do tech specialists feel about planning the next year

When asked about their roadmap for 2024, 30% of respondents cited Murphy’s Law, possibly in anticipation of unpredictable changes. The Gantt Chart was referenced by 24% of specialists, indicating a desire to structure their plans. Additionally, 13% associated the upcoming year with Occam’s razor, symbolizing a preference for simplicity and effective solutions.
