Ukrainian tech company NERDZ LAB has developed a new version of the mobile app for Yakaboo — Ukraine’s largest digital library, featuring over 74,000 e-books and audiobooks. The project covered the full development cycle, including UX/UI design and development of iOS and Android applications.

“It was important for Yakaboo to have an app that matched the scale of their platform. We built the new version not just to meet current needs, but to lay a foundation for growth for years to come,” said the NERDZ LAB team.
Both apps were rewritten in Flutter — a single codebase now serves iOS and Android simultaneously. The reader is built on open-source solutions used by market leaders, but standard plugins only covered basic rendering, so the team implemented typography, navigation, highlighting, and playback controls from scratch. Content protection was a separate challenge: downloaded books are stored on the device in encrypted form and decrypted only during active reading. The app works fully offline — reading progress, bookmarks, and audiobook position are stored locally and synced as soon as a connection is available.
The product is now available on the App Store and Google Play.
