Which Specialists the IT Industry Needs in 2023

In 2022, IT became the only industry in Ukraine that grew despite the war: the IT Ukraine association noted that the share of computer services in exports was 47%. The industry itself has almost 309 thousand specialists. In 2023, the hiring of IT specialists decreased by 13%, but companies continue to engage new specialists. GlobalLogic, one of the largest IT companies in Ukraine, analyzed who the industry needs now.

According to GlobalLogic, demand and supply in the sector remained despite the challenges of martial law. Now the company has about 200 positions in Ukraine. Therefore, for those who want to start their journey in IT or are looking for new projects, it is essential to understand which competencies are most in demand. GlobalLogic analyzed the demand for specialists and open positions within the company and told how this demand in the Ukrainian IT industry has changed.

Among the open positions of GlobalLogic in Ukraine are not only options for specialists with rich experience but also opportunities for trainees and junior specialists. This will allow you to start a career with one of the market leaders right away. To ensure that GlobalLogic specialists are always involved in interesting projects, open positions are primarily offered to internal staff through professional development programs for reskilling and upskilling. However, for new external specialists, there are proposals presented on the website.

“We see the greatest demand for middle + specialists, and niche technologies such as QNX, Kotlin, Python. Embedded (the development of embedded software) presents great potential for beginners. GlobalLogic is also actively looking for specialists in Automotive (AUTOSAR) and DevOps,” notes Yuliia Shmulia, Director of Recruitment.

In general, the top vacancies in Ukraine and the EMEA region in different areas are presented in the infographic.

Specialists of popular directions are in less demand:

“The obvious trend is a drop in demand for Java and .Net engineers. If there is a request, it has certain features and specific frameworks. Specialists with experience in niche technologies or up-to-date industrial specialization have an advantage in situations where the total number of open positions remains small,” Yuliia Shmulia comments.

How long does it take to grow professionally in IT?

As for the terms of career development, GlobalLogic specialists point out: the path from trainee to team lead can be completed in 6 years. On average, you can grow from an Intern position to a Junior position in 9-12 months. In order to become an engineer of the Middle level, a specialist will need on average about another year. Another 2 years are needed to move from a Middle to a Senior position engineer. The step from Senior to Lead position takes at least 2 years.
