The first month of study for students of Lviv IT Cluster bachelor’s programs at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is coming to an end. In the summer, a team of experts worked on improving the existing projects and implementing the new ones. During September the experts and program leads held meetings with freshmen to tell them more about the learning and career opportunities of the chosen educational programs.
Lviv University has already launched 8 bachelor’s programs, developed with the involvement of experts from Lviv IT Cluster’s companies, namely:
- Statistics and Data Science
- Data Science & Intelligent Systems
- Software Engineering
- Sensor and Analytical Systems
- HR Management
- Electronics and Computer Systems
The total number of freshmen that are now studying at these programs amounts to almost 300.
“Lviv University cooperates with a huge number of IT companies, each contributing to the development of IT education. IT Cluster participation in the process of building such cooperation is very important because often the community team is a platform for debate and joint decisions. One of the notable results of the cooperation between the University and the IT companies with IT Cluster’s participation is new educational programs that are especially popular with applicants and later students. It is worth noting that we regularly monitor the quality of such programs, as well as the satisfaction of all stakeholders. The results of such monitoring confirm that close cooperation with a potential employer, his involvement in the educational process, undoubtedly adds advantages to the educational program,” tells Vitaliy Kukharsky, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Informatization at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
This year we held meetings with students of all programs in person. Most of the events took place at the university, and freshmen of Cybersecurity programs at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and LSULS had the opportunity to meet with their leaders and Lviv IT Cluster’s representatives on the terrace of SoftServe HQ, whose specialists are significantly involved in supporting these programs.
“During four years, Lviv IT Cluster has been productively working with Ivan Franko National University of Lviv to develop bachelor’s programs in the IT-sphere. Every year, together with experts, we review and improve the education programs. Thanks to fruitful cooperation, the number and quality of entrants is growing, and this is the best indicator of the success of our joint efforts, ” Khrystyna Horbas, Education Director at Lviv IT Cluster.
At all the meetings, the program leads from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv pointed out the specifics of studying at chosen faculties, leads from the IT industry touched on internships in the companies they represent and answered freshmen’s questions.
Oleh Leskiv, the Education Projects Manager at Lviv IT Cluster, covered main areas of the community’s work, in particular its most important educational initiative – the IT Expert project.
It is within this project that freshmen will be able to work in teams on chosen projects under the guidance of experienced IT mentors. In addition, the launch of a closed recruitment platform has been announced at these meetings, which will be available only to students and graduates of bachelor’s programs of the Cluster, as well as the member companies of the community.
“Thanks to Lviv IT Cluster, my stream and I had the opportunity to get to know about the scope of work and efforts invested in the specialty of our university. We have very positive impressions! It was very involving to communicate with the leads and the representative of Lviv IT Cluster. I hope that in the near future we will contact and cooperate more. I was inspired by Lviv IT Cluster’s initiative to develop tech education at universities, as well as their assistance in the employment of students. The road to the goal will not be easy, but I’m sure it’s worth it!” – commented Victoria Motko, the group monitor at the Statistic and Data Science program.
