Ten years is a significant milestone for the team. WebLab Technology embarked on journey in December 2013 as a small team of developers working on an outsourcing project for a marketing company, a partner of Emaar Properties. The project started as a request to one of the co-founders, who now serves as CTO and Solution Architect, and concluded with the implementation of indoor navigation kiosks for shopping centers.
Looking back to the early days of the project, WebLab Technology rented an office space in a business center in the industrial zone of Kharkiv. Just six months into work, tram secured additional funding from the client and needed more people on the team. At the end of that year, one of the key engineers had to move to France, and another returned to Dubai. Hiring in-office engineers with the necessary skills was challenging, primarily because we were significantly behind larger companies in terms of office quality and space management. This led WebLab Technology to adopt a remote-first hiring strategy, a significant competitive advantage at the time (2014) given the pool of engineers interested in remote work.
After growing its team to 10 members, the company realized that technical competence alone wasn’t sufficient for effective teamwork. Embracing the remote-first approach, WebLab Technology understood the need for engineers capable of working autonomously, making decisions independently, and taking responsibility for outcomes.
WebLab Technology recognized that working with dedicated teams was the optimal approach for the company. Focusing entirely on a client’s needs, expanding their in-house team, adapting to their corporate culture, and prioritizing long-term partnerships became the team’s modus operandi.
Collaborating with established dedicated teams allows clients to hire genuinely invested individuals, often more skilled than they could hire independently, benefitting from our years of experience. WebLab Technology continues to operate in the same way but on a larger scale.
At the core of the work, both then and now, have always been key values: openness, humility, respect, autonomy, honesty, and treating each project as their own. These values define how WebLab Technology communicates within the team and beyond, shaping the character of the company.
Primarily, company work with SaaS and B2B, addressing specific business challenges on a scale, focusing on logic, functionality, and metrics rather than aesthetic visualization. WebLab Technology has worked with startups at various stages and provided solutions for global enterprise companies, offering optimization and scalability.
Currently, the main technical focus revolves around AWS, micro-frontends with substantial logic, microservices, and AI. The team also prepares clients for standard certifications and audits, maintaining high standards in security and compliance, exemplified by our SOC 2 Type II certification, which they helped obtain for client ShamanGo.
To mark our 10th anniversary, WebLab Technology decided against extravagant offline events. Instead, they allocating our celebratory budget of over $10,000 to the Kolo fund to support those defending Ukraine and the rest of the civilized world.
“Kolo Fund is doing significant work. We’ve been collaborating with the fund this year, and I believe it’s the best use of our team’s ‘festive’ budget,” says Oleksandr Knyga, CTO, and Solution Architect at WebLab Technology.
In the span of 10 years, WebLab Technology has grown over tenfold. Today the team comprises professional engineers working on products of varying complexity, with clients like ShamanGo, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Bryj (formerly FollowAnalytics), and Emaar Properties in the portfolio.
WebLab Technology consistently develops experts within dedicated teams and facilitate knowledge exchange for a synergistic effect. Unlike traditional outsourcing companies, a company, first and foremost, has a team of strong engineers, where even the CEO is ready to commit to the repository. The development focuses on raising the average seniority level of engineers rather than quantitative growth.WebLab Technology also adheres to the philosophy of slow hiring – a meticulous candidate selection process involving six interview stages. This system allows one to find truly high-class professionals. The company is actively seeking a competent AI Prompting Engineer.
