VO-Tech School Students Present their Developments

At Lviv Vocational School №29, as part of the VO-Tech School project by Lviv IT Cluster, the defense of team projects took place. Second-year students of the updated “Information Processing and Software Operator” program showcased their developments.

Students presented chatbots and websites they developed during their educational and production practice. Among them were:

  • A chatbot for anonymous acquaintances designed to help users find new friends and partners. It provides the opportunity to communicate anonymously and discover common interests with other users.
  • “Recipe Book” chatbot created for cooking enthusiasts. It assists users in finding recipes based on the available ingredients in their refrigerators, enabling them to prepare delicious dishes without much effort.
  • A chatbot and website for movie selection. Users can choose from the top 10 most exciting films according to viewer ratings and learn about Ukrainian cinema and the most anticipated premieres in the global film industry.
  • A chatbot for food establishments. This development helps users find dishes, beverages and even make reservations at food establishments. Additionally, it provides WiFi passwords for the convenience of visitors.

The “Recipe Book” chatbot was developed by a team of eight students who were fully engaged in its development, design, and testing.

“We have decided to create a project to assist our educational institution by developing a recipe book for our cooks. Our bot will not only enable them to share recipes with their peers but also incorporate a recipe search function based on ingredients. Users can input the names of the ingredients they have, and the bot will provide several recipe options,” explains Snizhana Tyman, a second-year student.

The teamwork aspect was crucial during the project, as it plays a vital role in tech companies. Moreover, it is the best way to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.

“There were five of us collaborating on the project, working on the ‘Anonimchyk’ chatbot designed for meetings and communication purposes. Projects like these provide us with a sense of belonging to a global community and the opportunity to connect with people from around the world. Our team collaboration was highly productive as we shared ideas and knowledge, collectively searching for the best solutions. Witnessing the results of our work is incredibly motivating and boosts our confidence, adds Roman Boyko, a second-year student.

The VO-Tech School project, implemented by the Lviv IT Cluster, aims to update the educational programs in vocational-technical institutions. In September 2021, the first program to undergo updates was the “Information Processing and Software Operator” program. This program equips students with the fundamentals of programming, enabling them to kickstart their careers in the tech field upon completion of their studies. Furthermore, students acquire knowledge in testing fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, and develop professional English language skills.

“VO-Tech School provides a unique opportunity for teenagers to embark on their tech career path after completing the 9th grade. The educational program at the senior and lead levels has been updated by industry professionals. Alongside technical subjects, we emphasize the development of soft skills and teamwork abilities. Students also have the chance to undergo additional training using the resources and platforms provided by our partner tech companies,” explains Yuliya Tsymbala, Education Lead at Lviv IT Cluster.

The admission campaign is currently underway at Vocational School №29. Applications for admission can be submitted until August 31. For more information about admission requirements, please visit the educational institution’s website.
